On July 4th we were reached by the sad news that our dear friend, Bishop Zenobius Isaya, has gone home to be with the Lord. His death came suddenly and unexpectedly, as the Bishop was a physically strong and healthy man, full of life and vigor.
Bishop Isaya was, together with his wife Upendo, the founding pastor of a large church in Mwanza, Tanzania. He was recognized and respected among Christian leaders all over the country, a friend of Presidents and Prime Ministers – a statesman among pastors and leaders in Tanzania.
For many years, Bishop Isaya served as a door-opener for a number of different international preachers to come to Tanzania and share the Gospel. He embraced the grace message. By paving the way for the Gospel of grace to be preached throughout Tanzania, the impact of his life and ministry will last for generations to come.
Bishop Isaya had a great desire to reach all of Tanzania with the Gospel. He was a great public speaker, a good and caring friend, and a man who loved to laugh. I first met him as we worked together to set up a great Gospel festival in Sumbawanga in 2012. For the following years we also worked together in Dodoma, Arusha, Mtwara, and Bukoba. He and his wife were appreciated guests at our wedding.
We are convinced that the Bishop was welcomed into heaven by these words: “Well done, My good and faithful servant…” Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Upendo, their children, and church members.
